Publicity Manager (Maternity Cover)

Legend Times is looking for up to 12 months Maternity Cover from October 2021 to fulfil the role of Publicity Manager for Legend Times on a four days per week contract.


This role will be focussed on creating and running publicity campaigns for key titles across Legend Times’ fiction and non-fiction imprints. In addition the role will include managing the company’s social media channels, newsletter and other general publicity work.


This is an opportunity to work in a varied, dynamic and key role and would be a great fit for someone who enjoys creating and running publicity campaigns, working creatively, building relationships with key media contacts and launching and establishing new writing talent in the book market.


Key Duties


  • Implementing the existing and further evolving the publicity strategy for the fiction and non-fiction lists in conjunction with management.

  • Managing and liaising with our list of authors from initial sign-up through to post-publication.

  • Creating bespoke publicity plans for each title.

  • Managing and creating our monthly newsletter and all mailouts, including new releases and new acquisitions.

  • Social media management across our major platforms – Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn, creating interesting and inspiring content.

  • Have a pro-active approach to making new media contacts.

  • Manage review copy mailing – creating lists and researching book specific contacts.

  • Manage and work closely with the Legend 100 - our bookstagram and book blogging community to create book tours for all fiction titles.

  • Managing book endorsements pre-publication and liaising with production to ensure they are utilised on the final edition.

  • Feeding information regularly to the Data Manager, ensuring all endorsements and major coverage are supplied.

  • Pitching features, interviews and review coverage to national and local media.

  • Manage all book prize submissions.

  • Planning and managing author events – both online and physical events, including bookshops and festivals.

  • Reviewing submissions and taking part in editorial meetings, with a focus on publicity potential.




  • Support general office administration as required in a small closely-working team.

  • Being able to work to and achieve pre-agreed work targets and to present and provide updates to the Legend Times Board as requested.


Experience/Skills Required


  • Minimum 3 years publishing or applicable experience, preferably with some level of existing media contacts and network.

  • Experience managing social media accounts and creating content.

  • Knowledge of the relevant market and the strategy of potential competitors.

  • Vital to have strong planning ability and an attention to detail, as well as strong verbal and communication skills.

  • Ability to adapt well within short time frames.

  • Strong interpersonal skills in particular working with and enthusing authors and media contacts.

  • Excellent time-management skills and ability to handle a diverse workload under pressure. Thorough organisation skills including updating the progress of each book campaign and monitoring deadlines.

  • Experience in developing and implementing an ambitious but achievable strategy.

  • Good at working to targets in a fast-moving business environment with a strong appetite for learning and personal development as well as a passion for new challenges.

  • A strong passion for books and connection with the mission of Legend Times.

  • Good working knowledge of standard software, such as Microsoft and Adobe programmes and Google sheets.



Place of work: 51 Gower Street, London WC1E 6HJ*. Your standard working hours will be 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. You will need to be flexible and work longer hours as required.


*Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, from August 2021, all staff are working in the office a minimum of 2-3 days per week with the option to work the remainder of time at home. With the regular changes in advice due to the pandemic this policy could be subject to change over the next 12 months.


Salary: £27,000 - £30,000 pro-rata, depending on experience.
